Volunteers In Education The Volunteers In Education (VIE) program is a part of the PTA program. At the start of the school year and throughout the year, needs are identified and the VIE coordinator helps match volunteers with teachers. In the classrooms, our volunteers help teachers in many ways. These include tutoring students, helping students with the Accelerated Reader program, assisting with computer lab activities, chaperoning field trips, reproducing class materials, decorating/arranging bulletin boards, providing special cultural and careers day glimpses, acting as room mothers/fathers, coordinating classroom parties, and helping during physical education field day. The also help first graders adjust from the half-day kindergarten program to the longer school day and cafeteria lunch procedures. Every day VIEs serve an important roll in helping Tallwood students receive a positive educational experience. Typical volunteer assignments consist of a few hours or less a day, sometimes once a day and/or once a week. Some tasks have flexible hours and time frames. Volunteers do not handle money, nor are they privy to students' personal information. The specifics of this are spelled out in the Guidelines for School Volunteers pamphlet, which is available in the Volunteer sign-in book in the school foyer. We are very proud of them! VIEs make a difference at Tallwood! Invest in our future. |
