Grade 
The Third Grade curriculum in Virginia Beach City Public Schools emphasizes reading and its importance in all subject areas. A variety of reading comprehension strategies, along with the Virginia Standards of Learning are applied and taught in Language Arts and all content areas.In Everyday Math, many concepts spirals from year to year to insure mastery. In science, a broad array of topics, including habitats, are explored. Social Studies compares civilizations such as Ancient Greece and Rome, and important people and events are investigated. Cursive writing is introduced and all students will learn to write legibly.
The third grade teachers at Tallwood Elementary encourage parental support and involvement as they prepare each student for the SOL tests given in Late may or June. A successful and exciting year awaits all third graders at Tallwood Elementary!
