Art Club

The Art Club meets one time per week. the members explore various techniques and use an assortmant of mediums that they may or may not experience in regular art class. Art Club memebers are required to comlete weekly drawing assignments in their sketchbook. All fifthe grade students are eligible for Art Club.

Chorus

The Tallwood Elementary School Chorus rehearses twice a week. They perform several times during the year for Tallwood students and faculty, PTA, Partners in Education, and the surrounding community. All fifth graders are eligible for Chorus.

Computer Club

The Tallwood Elementary School Computer Club is designed to give students an opportunity to become more familiar with computers, their care and maintenance, and their many uses. The Computer Club will provide opportunities for interested students to:

Work with computer programs;

Enhance computer skills;

Learn how to care for and maintain computer equipment; and

Provide various kinds of support to the school community.

The Computer Club meets one day per week during fifth grade P.E. time. Computer Club members are expected to be on time and ready to perform the assigned tasks at each meeting.

The Computer Club will take up to 15 members each semester. Members will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students will be notified of which semester session they have been placed.

Students must meet the following criteria for becoming a Computer Club member:

Must have a positive attitude and be willing to learn.

Must be a fifth grade student.

Must maintain at least a "C" average.

Must maintain at least an "S" in Citizenship.

Must have signed a Computer Club Contract.

Must have parental consent.

Must have Internet/E-mail permission and a signed form must be on file at school.

Peer Tutors

Fifth grade students train to be Peer Tutors for four weeks in the fall. They assist students in the lower grades in various ways throughout the year.

Safety Patrols

The primary aims of the Safety Patrol are:

to protect students from accidents while on their way to and from the school building ,and

to foster qualities of leadership and good citizenship in other patrol members.

School Safety Patrol is an honored position. They perform an invaluable service to fellow students.

Members of the Safety Patrol are fifth grade students who are selected for their courtesy, dependability, and scholastic standing.

Strings

Fifth Grade students who choose to study violin, viola, or cello meet two times a week with our visiting Strings Specialist.

Student Cooperative Association - S.C.A.

The Student Cooperative Association (S.C.A.) at Tallwood is very active. Student representatives meet once a month to plan activities to improve school spirit, and to encourage community service. The SCA sponsors skating parties once each nine weeks to allow students to get together outside of school. The SCA also sponsors school spirit days and holiday contests. School supply drives and canned food drives are also sponsored by the SCA.

Student Hosts

One boy and one girl from each classroom serve as Student Hosts. They serve as friends to new students so that the new students are able to make a smooth transition to Tallwood.

Tallwood High School Tutors

Students from Tallwood High School's National Honor Society and Key Club work with our students several afternoons a week throughout the school year.
