Library and Media Center

Tallwood Elementary School, Virginia Beach, VA

The mission of the school library media program is to ensure that members of our school community are effective independent users of ideas and information essential for functioning in a changing world. In partnership with teachers, the library media program extends classroom experiences and assures that information skills are an integral part of other areas of learning. The program promotes literacy and an appreciation of language while nurturing a love of reading and an interest in viewing and listening.

The Tallwood Elementary Media Center is open for students daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The media center houses over 12,000 books and audio-visual items. We have a fully automated catalog and circulation system. Computers are available to students for catalog searches. All libray computers have Internet access. The Library Media Center offers and encourages the use of Groliers Online for student information and research needs. Information regarding free at-home access to Groliers Online is available from the Library Media Specialist.
