The counselors provide monthly developmental classroom guidance lessons, group and individual counseling, and train the student hosts and peer tutors, whos services are used throuout the school year. Students, parents, and teachers and/or administrators may request that a student visit with the guidance counselor either in a group or individually.
The developmental classroom guidance is a planned sequential program that fosters the academic, social, emotional, and career development of all elementary school children. The developmental guidance classroom lessons consist of several topics scheduled throughout the school year. A calendar of topics is listed below.
Group counseling sessions consist of lessons on dealing with a parent's military deployment, self-esteem, stress/behavior/anger management, and friendship. Parental permission is always required before any child is allowed to work in a group with Tallwood's guidance counselors.
Individual counseling is available to all students at Tallwood. The guidance counselors will seek parental permission if students require on-going assistance.
Tallwood's guidance counselors also serve as a resource for all parents and teachers.
