 Art Program

Students in grades 1-5 meet for art class once a week. Each weekly session meets for 40 minutes. We have a very hands-on-program using a variety of various materials such as paint, clay, pastels, markers, crayons ,printing inks, fabrics , yarn and a rich assortment of collage materials.

At Tallwood, we strive to meet five educational goals
to help develop our students':

ability to think creatively and make connections,
ability to make qualitative visual judgments,
ability to express themselves through their artwork
awareness of self and sensitivity to the environment, and
knowledge of various cultures.

The following major components are used to teach these educational goals to our art students:

1. Perception and Sensitivity

2. Principles and Elements of Design

3. Study of Artists and Works of Art

4. Making Art

The Art program makes an effort when appropriate to correlate and make a connection with lessons in language arts, social studies, science, math, music, P.E. and other areas of learning.
